“Safety matters most to reach the destination,” Chief of Polri’s Traffic Corps Inspector General Aan Suhanan said at Bakauheni Port in Lampung Province on Sunday.
According to him, traffic police officers had monitored traffic conditions on several roads in Sumatra and Java that travelers pass through during the return flow period.
He informed that the traffic situations from South Sumatra to Bakauheni Port and from Merak Port to Jakarta remain quite smooth.
He further said that to support the smooth return flow, the police continue implementing the policy of limiting the access of big vehicles (three-axle vehicles and above) until April 16.
“To all regional police chiefs and traffic directors, make sure that until April 16, there should be no vehicles with three axles or more except those that are operating toward Merak and on arterial roads,” he said.
He also appreciated various relevant stakeholders for having coordinated in serving the public during the return flow period at Bakauheni Port.
On Sunday, Suhanan carried out monitoring at Bakauheni Port with Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Lampung Governor Arinal Djunaidi, and several officials from related government agencies.
As per a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation, 193.6 million people were expected to join the homecoming exodus to celebrate Eid al-Fitr this year, which fell on April 10.
Earlier, Polri’s Traffic Corps said that the number of traffic accidents during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus and return flow period showed a decline of 15 percent compared to that of the previous year.
“Nationally, traffic accidents declined from 2,159 to 1,835, or declined by 15 percent,” Suhanan said in Jakarta on Friday (April 12).
