Cooperation crucial for achieving equal distribution of digital access

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Minister Budi Arie Setiadi underscored the need for collaboration between telecommunications industry players in order to realize equal distribution of digital access in disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.

“One of the collaborations we offer is the asset utilization cooperation scheme. Under this scheme, industry players can maximize telecommunications infrastructure assets that have been built by Kominfo,” Setiadi stated here on Thursday.

Speaking virtually at the Detikcom Leaders Forum: “Direction of the Indonesian Telecommunications Industry,” he explained that the ministry has built the Palapa Ring fiber optic backbone network to improve internet facilities in the country.

The Palapa Ring backbone network provides internet connection in remote regions.

Kominfo has launched several initiatives related to technological developments, including the implementation of 5G in 11 priority cities and increasing Internet Protocol version six (IPv6) penetration.

“I believe that with collaboration, we can move towards a bright future in using digital technology for advanced Indonesia,” Setiadi remarked.

According to Setiadi, increasing internet penetration or access for Indonesians should be accompanied by other important aspects, such as data security.

“Kominfo, along with telecommunications industry players, keep striving to protect customer data and privacy and fight the increasingly complex cybersecurity threats,” he affirmed.

He remarked that the telecommunications industry is expected to grow rapidly. Some of the trends and changes in the sector include the development of 5G network, the Internet of Things (IoT), and convergence services.

Setiadi noted that concurrently, the increasing number of internet users in Indonesia offers a huge market potential for the industry.

Furthermore, Minister Setiadi is optimistic about accelerating digital transformation in the industry by focusing on telecommunications infrastructure development and digitalization of strategic sectors, as well as strengthening regulations and the development of human resources.
