2 killed, 4 missing after landslides strike town near Indonesia’s capital


JAKARTA, March 15 (Xinhua) — Two people were killed and four others went missing after landslides hit Bogor town near the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, a senior officer of the local disaster management agency said on Wednesday.

Eleven people survived the incident striking the town at 11:49 p.m. local time on Tuesday, several of them suffered serious wounds, said Ahmad Maulana, a press officer of the disaster management and mitigation agency in the town.

“Heavy downpours triggered the landslides, six houses and one mosque were destroyed,” he told Xinhua via phone.

The incident also disturbed train transportation from Bogor town to the Sukabumi district of West Java province, according to him.

The search for the missing persons is underway.

“We will search the victims with maximum effort,” head of the Jakarta search and rescue office named only Fazzli told Xinhua in a text message.
